RIDES

The Santa Barbara road cycling community is quite active. There are local organized rides with various distances and intensity levels pretty much every day of the week. The following list is certainly far from being exhaustive, nevertheless it represents a good reference for those who are interested in group riding. Needless to say, all the following rides are OPEN.

MONDAY

Doug McFadden Memorial Monday Night Time Trial Series 

This event has a dedicated website. Check it out !

TUESDAY

Early Morning Ride 

Starts at 8:10 am at the Dolphin Fountain. Same route as Sunday World’s, slightly slower pace.

Denise (Echelon) Ride

Starts at 12:15 pm at the East Beach parking lot (Cabrillo West parking lot). About two hours long, approximately 35 miles, average speed 17-18 mph out to Montecito, Carpenteria and back riding by Skofield Drive, Toro Canyon and Hwy 192. There are four designated regrouping stops along the route.

WEDNESDAY

Criterium workout/training

Self-explanatory :o). Starts at 6 pm at the Research Park in Goleta. Only during daylight savings time.

THURSDAY

FRIDAY

Everybody’s resting and preparing for the weekend madness.

SATURDAY

Lake Ride

Starts at 8 am at the Dolphin Fountain. The group heads out to Carpinteria and climbs up to Casitas Pass. Some riders head back to SB after the second climb. Others go to Ojai or around the lake and back through Carpinteria. There are a couple of designated regrouping stops along the route.

Echelon's Saturday Ride

Starts at 8:30 am at the Vieja Valley School parking lot. Sustained pace through Hope Ranch, up on La Cumbre, Cathedral Oaks and final sprint on Glen Annie. After the Glen Annie sprint there is a choice between joining part of the group and ride to El Refugio on Hwy 101 or getting back through UCSB campus and on the bike path. There are three designated regrouping stops along the route.

SUNDAY

Echelon’s Sunday Ride

Starts at 8:30 am at the East Beach parking lot (Cabrillo West parking lot). About two hours long, approximately 35-40 miles. Manageable pace out to Montecito, Summerland, Carpenteria and back riding by Hwy 150, Gobernador Cny and Hwy 192. There are three designated regrouping stops along the route.

Sunday World’s

Starts at 9:15 am at the East Beach parking lot (Cabrillo West parking lot). This is the fastest ride in Santa Barbara. Goes out to Montecito, Summerland, Hwy192, Gobernador Cyn, Hwy 150, Rincon and back. The ride typically ends with a final sprint on the stretch of Hwy 192 approaching the Santa Barbara Polo & Raquet Club (polo fields sprint). There is one designated regrouping stop along the route.
